How to Prepare Your AC for Monsoon Season in Phoenix

Monsoon season brings dust storms, high winds, lightning and the occasional hail. Your AC works hard through all of it, and a little preparation goes a long way.

Schedule a tune-up before the storms

Clear the area around the outdoor unit

Trim plants back at least two feet, remove loose items that could blow into the unit and make sure nothing is stacked against it. Airflow matters for cooling and for safety.

Change your filter and check drainage

Dust storms clog filters fast. Replace yours more often during monsoon season and make sure the condensate drain line is clear.

Consider surge protection

Lightning and grid fluctuations can damage control boards and compressors. A surge protector on the outdoor unit is inexpensive insurance.

After the storm
